A survival size Crystal Skull is on revelation at the British Museum ( see photo ) and as part of the vapour we have the low down on the real crystal skull and where it is believed to have go about a find from. Although the real skull has nothing to do with the movie the alibi is pretty darn interesting, here is a transitory Q&A on it.
What is it? A life-size carving of a charitable skull made from a single block of toss crystal (a clear, colourless selection of quartz). It was acquired by the Museum in 1897 purporting to be an antediluvian Mexican object. However scientific explore conducted by the Museum has established that the skull was most inclined to produced in the 19th century in Europe. As such the purpose is not an authentic pre-Columbian artefact.
How did it set out on the collection? The skull was purchased by the Museum from Tiffany and Co, New York in 1897. At the moment of its purchase, the skull was said to have been brought from Mexico by a Spanish catchpole before the French occupation (in 1863). It was sold to an English connoisseur and acquired at his death by Eugène Boban, a French antiquities merchandiser, later becoming the property of Tiffany and Co. The skull was exhibited for many years at the Museum of Mankind in Piccadilly (which housed the British Museum’s Ethnographic amassment), it is currently on permanent display at the British Museum in the Wellcome Certainty Gallery (room 24).
What scientific enquire has been undertaken? The British Museum has examined the skull several times between 1950 and 1990.
