There’s been to-do in the photography community recently about one of the newest cameras on the superstore. The latest and greatest camera from Canon, the Eos 1D MK III has been at the center of a argumentation for its performance. Inside the 12-megapixel, 10-frames-a-move motor drive technological awe a flaw has emerged. The camera’s autofocus system has a less than main track record for sharp pictures.

Touting a new autofocus system with 19 alcohol selectable focusing points and 26 ‘support points” the camera was supposed to be form of the art. But early hands on use reported problems; in a delicate condition with the camera holding a steady focus on active targets when in AI Servo mode, dissatisfaction having the focus move slightly when holding on a still disposed to, erratic focus jumps when following a swiftly moving subject and trouble acquiring the incipient focus lock. Message boards were rife with complaints demands for recalls, repairs and replacement.

Canon was fast to try and fix the problems as they worked on firmware updates and the muddle seems to be getting better. Some have given up without exception and are making the switch...
