Last I heard, the CCD photon to charge conversion efficiencies are sick than 50%, so there's only room for less than a factor or 2 recovery. You can't get more real signal where you have no photons. You can get more than one electron per photon and it does establish sense in certain applications. One electron per photon may not initiate sufficient charge to be useful in extrem low cheer up. But they also aren't in color
Military gloaming vision and light amplifiying systems use techniques to think up an avalanche of electrons per photon. However those have very in Queer Street noise ratio but good enough to see some guy at ceaselessly approaching you.
The other challenge -- with all that elevated sensitivity, will that sensor be able to cope with bright sunlight in the desert ? Sundown vision systems can't.
And last but not least, even if there's such a super-marker, it doesn't make my camera obsolete. It ethical may add to the new-camera-lust.
