There’s been turmoil in the photography community recently about one of the newest cameras on the shop. The latest and greatest camera from Canon, the Eos 1D MK III has been at the center of a debate for its performance. Inside the 12-megapixel, 10-frames-a-bruised motor drive technological awe a flaw has emerged. The camera’s autofocus system has a less than sidereal track record for sharp pictures.
Touting a new autofocus system with 19 consumer selectable focusing points and 26 ‘relieve points” the camera was supposed to be constitution of the art. But early hands on use reported problems; upset with the camera holding a steady focus on persuasive targets when in AI Servo mode, hector having the focus move slightly when holding on a still voter, erratic focus jumps when following a instantly moving subject and trouble acquiring the prime focus lock. Message boards were uninhibited with complaints demands for recalls, repairs and replacement.
Canon was responsive to try and fix the problems as they worked on firmware updates and the unruly seems to be getting better. Some have given up in all respects and are making the switch...
