I've used MF for macro (no samples), as well as some extreme teleconverter tests:

70-300 Test 6 - 300 x 2.0tc @ f/8

And I tried (but returned) the 50/1.8 lens.

However, I'd used an 85/1.4 (AF) on a D300 for a few days, and found myself missing it when I returned the combo. So I bought one, mostly for use around the house -- no regrets -- it works outstandingly well on the D60, whose rangefinder marks are more accommodating than the D40(x)'s flashing green light:
